Vina Kay
Co-Producer/Co-Director


 
 

Vina is Executive Director at Voices for Racial Justice, which advances racial justice in Minnesota through organizer training, multiracial partnerships and campaigns, and research and policy tools. Trained as a lawyer, she pushes for racial equity policies at the Minnesota Legislature and at local levels in communities throughout the state. She has worked for racial equity in education, housing, and criminal justice. She is a writer of creative nonfiction and poetry and has been a contributor to blogs, including Opine Season. She has received the Loft Mentor Series award in creative nonfiction and a Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Residency at Tofte Lake Center for poetry. She has served on many boards, currently including the Center for Media Justice. Her two sons attended Lake Country School and she has served on the boards of Lake Country and Bright Water Schools in Minneapolis. Vina lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jan Selby
Co-Producer/Co-Director


 

Award-winning director and producer Jan Selby’s work has been broadcast on PBS stations and garnered numerous awards at film festivals worldwide.  Her most recent documentary film, Beyond the Divide, premiered at Montana’s Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and then traveled to festivals winning awards such as Best Feature Documentary at the Peace on Earth Film Festival in Chicago. It was broadcast in November 2015 on Twin Cities Public Television (tpt) and was distributed through American Public Television in the fall of 2016. Her previous film, A Circle and Three Lines, won a regional Emmy, traveled to film festivals, was broadcast on tpt and exhibited in the Walker Art Center. Her current production, Building the Pink Tower (working title), is a study of how the Montessori method of education is transforming the lives of children in cities across the U.S. and has the power to transform our society. Jan is the founder of Quiet Island Films. Jan's children attended an assortment of Montessori schools incuding J.J. Hill Montessori, Highland Park Montessori, Lake Country School and Great River School. Jan served on the boards of Great River School and Lake Country School, where she met Vina.
